White Dwarf is Dead, Long Live White Dwarf

So the rumours were true, white dwarf has gone in to multiple versions, more info in the link, i for one am intrigued but not happy how its been launched.

The question is raised that now as a subscriber what do i do? nice of them to launch it on a blog and not actually email those who are already paid up.

i like the idea im just frustrated at the way GW have handled launching it. its poor customer relations and a stupidly poor announcement at that. if you launch something new and exciting you scream it from the rooftops not mumble it in the outside bog whilst asking your mum to pass the loo roll under the door.

intrigued with it but the disappointment with the way the news was handled has overridden the feelings of pleasure, any thoughts and feelings?

This is the text of the article:

White Dwarf magazine goes weekly!

Saturday 1 February sees the birth of the new, weekly, White Dwarf magazine.

Saturday 1 February sees the birth of the new, monthly, Warhammer: Visions magazine.

Yes, that’s right. We’ll be launching two new magazines on the same day, Saturday 1 February.

White Dwarf, now weekly.

From Saturday 1 February, White Dwarf will be available each and every Saturday exclusively in your local Games Workshop store, Independent Stockist and at games-workshop.com

White Dwarf will contain everything that’s new and exciting in the hobby that week, from news and information on all the week’s other new releases, to new columnists, interviews, painting, modelling, game rules and much more. And the price? The same as a pot of your favourite Citadel paint.

Warhammer: Visions, now monthly.

Warhammer: Visions will be available on the first Saturday every month in your local Games Workshop store, Independent Stockist, games-workshop.com and local newsstands in the UK, Europe and Australia.

Warhammer: Visions is a completely new monthly magazine, also from the White Dwarf team. It’s unlike anything we’ve ever done before and this super high-quality visual feast weighs in at a whopping 236 pages, each and every month.

Just 17 days to go and counting.

After months of planning and hard work, we’re really excited to be able to share this news with you. We were overwhelmed by all the support and feedback you gave us last time we relaunched White Dwarf back in September 2012 (and by your emails and photos that you send us every day – please keep them coming), and we’re even more excited by what we’ve got coming up for you in 2014.

If you can’t wait for Saturday 1 February and want to know more, then your local Games Workshop store manager has more info…

UPDATE:

have just managed to speak to GW about this and they have confirmed exsisting subscribers will continue to recieve the new monthly magazine until their subscription runs out and they will also recieve the first copy of the weekly magazine in feb. The weekly magazine will not (or at least not at present) have a subcription service and will only be availible in store or on their site.
hope that clears a few bits up for anyone.

This has killed white dwarf for me. I havent the time to order a copy every week and cant get to the local GW which for me is 40 miles away. I relied on Tesco having it in. What a farce. The visions mag is shocking for the price. So disappointed that after collecting and gaming with hobby for 24 years that this has happened to WD. Shouldnt the visions be the store exclusive?

i agree the store exclusive seems the wrong way round from a subscriber sense but from a logistical stand point it makes more sense, which as always kinda makes it difficult for us as hobbyists :(
im glad my visions is being covered by the cost of my subcription as i dont think personally i would go buy it other wise.
picked up most of the weeklies just for intersts sake and if only they could ahve combined those with the visions in to one monthly mag, going back to what WD was it would have been a good mag.
lets give it a year or two and see what GW come up with.
if you are interested in the weekly its always worth ordeting a few at a time mail order :)
