Forge World Newsletter #319 - The Heresy Begins!!!

As always all the important bits below:

=========================================
Hi there,
The dust has begun to settle from Games Day UK and The Horus Heresy Book I: Betrayal has been met with an incredible reaction from all of you who picked up a copy. Today we’re excited to unleash it for general release, alongside Angron the Red Angel!

The Horus Heresy Book I: Betrayal
The Horus Heresy Book I: Betrayal is now available to order for immediate despatch. This book will be available exclusively from Forge World and the Warhammer World store.

This 290-page tome delves into the fratricidal conflict on Isstvan III that saw Warmaster Horus’s traitor Legions purge their own ranks of those legionaries that would remain loyal to Terra. It also contains a general overview of the Great Crusade, and a wealth of detail covering the foundation of the Space Marine Legions and the histories of four of these immense military forces.

Lavishly decorated, this book is leather-bound with inlaid metal detailing and foil-blocked page edging, and also features metal cleats to the corners of the book’s casing impressed with the Imperial Aquila.

Written by
Alan Bligh, it is a stand-alone supplement for Warhammer 40,000 and contains a vast array of colour profiles, maps and artwork. Also included is a full Space Marine Legion army list and background, character profiles, special rules and pre-Heresy histories for the Death Guard, Sons of Horus, World Eaters and Emperor’s Children Legions.

The book also contains a wealth of game content including a full campaign system to play out the Betrayal at Isstvan in games of Warhammer 40,000, unique Warlord Traits for the Space Marine Legion army list, terrain charts for the corpse-choked ruins of Isstvan III and a full set of Horus Heresy-era Zone Mortalis rules.

You can find out more about The Horus Heresy Book I: Betrayal in these videos, or click here if pict-interference prevents their appearance.

Angron the Red Angel, Primarch of the World Eaters Legion
The most bloody-handed and savage of the Emperor’s gene-forged sons is the Primarch Angron, whose legendary reputation in battle has earned him the title of The Undefeated amongst his brothers. Cast in his youth upon a world of brutal oppression, he was enslaved and surgically mutilated to become a gladiator in its games of death, eventually becoming the undefeated lord of the red sands, a killer without peer.

When he rebelled against his brutal overlords, the Emperor saved Angron from certain death alongside his loyal followers, an act Angron has never forgiven the Emperor for. It is little surprise then that when his brother Primarch Horus turned against the Emperor that Angron was quick to side with the traitorous Warmaster; his only true master though was ever his rage and bloodlust.

Angron the Red Angel, Primarch of the World Eaters, designed by Simon Egan, is an incredibly detailed multi-part resin model showing the Primarch of the World Eaters charging headlong into battle whilst Space Marines fall before his mighty axes, Gorefather and Gorechild.
This paragon of war is supplied on a 40mm base for gaming purposes, which slots into a 60mm scenic diorama base for display. We also decided that this very special model deserves appropriate packaging, and so Angron is supplied in a particularly handsome presentation box as well.

Rules for fielding the Primarch Angron can be found in the Lords of War appendix to the Space Marine Legion army list in The Horus Heresy Book I: Betrayal. This model is available to order now for immediate despatch.

You can find out about how designer Simon Egan approached such an iconic project in the video below, or click here if scrapcode interference blocks the pict-feed:

Building a Space Marine Legion

Guess who has just spent his budget for the next few months on the book! that, the brushes and some Secret Weapon bits certainly make this an expensive but awesome month :)

The Great Brush Conundrum - A Result

Thanks for all the feedback guys its actually been really helpful. The consensus across my blog, the FB groups and a few forums seems to be that if you use Kolinsky sable brushes then you can’t go wrong, no matter the make. With that in mind though three brands seem to have jumped out as runaway leaders, they are:

Raphael Brushes

Windsor and Newton Series 7

Rosemary and Co

I have looked in to all of these and actually found a local store that stocks Windsor’s and Rosemary’s, getting to hold them helped and I did prefer the rosemary’s over the Windsor’s, but barely. Unfortunately though I didn’t buy at the store, let’s just say it knows it has an audience of a certain age and they milk them. So I can home last night and did some surfing for various brushes, as nice as the Windsor’s were the fact I could get the Rosemary’s direct from the company for less than £3 per brush as opposed at least double for the Windsor’s was a bit of a game changer. So last night I placed an order for a set ranging from 000 through to 3, I know I’m erring to the cheaper ones but I think some decent brushes (even in sizes ill never use) will make a big difference. So there we have it I’ve spent £25 on some awesome seeming brushes and now to see what they do. Once they are here ill get some use in and hopefully some reviews of them and the company.

Once again thanks for your help and advice, much appreciated.

The Great Brush Conundrum

Well folks it's time for a change! I've decided it is finally time to upgrade from bog standard GW brushes to something a little bit more professional. Dont get me wrong the GW brushes have been brilliant and everything I have painted for the past 20ish (god I feel old now) has used standard GW brushes and the current ones are defaintely the best.

So why am I posting, in short I dont have a clue whats out there!! There seem to be some great companies but none that I have had experience with so this post is to start the debate on what brushes are the best and most cost effective (this is a big one) for the bumbling hobbiest?

I would love to know what brushes you use? what experinces have you had with different brushes? Is there a brand that by far out shines others?

please feel free to send yuor thoughts, comments and links in the comments section below and hopefully this could see me getting some nice new brushes soon.

Forge World Newsletter #318 - Genesis of a Primarch: Angron the Red Angel

As always all the important bits below:

=========================================

Hi there, We are now two days away from Games Day, and no words of mine can do justice to today’s update. Without further ado, we’re pleased to announce that we’ve added another interview to our YouTube channel.

Another YouTube Update

Angron the Red Angel, Primarch of the World Eaters, will be available to purchase in limited numbers at Games Day UK. Simon Egan has laboured for many months to create this incredibly detailed multi-part resin model showing the Primarch of the World Eaters charging headlong into battle whilst Space Marines fall before his mighty axes, Gorefather and Gorechild. We also decided that this very special model deserves appropriate packaging, and so Angron is supplied in a very handsome presentation box as well.

Rules for fielding the Primarch Angron can be found in the Lords of War appendix to the Space Marine Legion army list in The Horus Heresy Book I: Betrayal. He will be available to buy in limited numbers, prior to his general release, at Games Day UK on Sunday 23rd September.

New White Dwarf Available on 22nd September
October's issue of the brand new White Dwarf contains a fantastic 8-page Horus Heresy article, looking at the creation myth of Warhammer 40,000. This article includes a look at the evolution of the Horus Heresy, from its first mention all the way up to the best-selling Black Library series and the new Forge World book. With exclusive interviews with Alan Merrett, Dan Abnett, Graham McNeill, Simon Egan and Alan Bligh, a first look at the Horus Heresy Book 1 – Betrayal ahead of its release at Games Day UK on Sunday and some exciting photography that you won't see anywhere else, it's not to be missed!

Just WOW!!! FW just keep on giving and giving, £50 is steep but it looks worth every penny and is very tempting.

Forge World Newsletter #317 - Cataphractii Terminators, Weapon Sets, Legion Command Upgrades

As always all the important bits below:
=========================================

Hi there, It’s only three days until Games Day UK, and the question on everyone’s lips is ‘How much more awesome can Forge World have to reveal?’
Well, we’ve still got plenty to tell you about, starting with the announcement in today’s newsletter of  no less than seven more kits that will be on sale, in limited numbers, for the first time at Games Day UK...

Games Day UK Pre-release Kits
Cataphractii Pattern Terminators and Weapon Sets

Terminator armour is the finest protective wargear in the arsenal of the Legiones Astartes. Several different Tactical Dreadnought Armour patterns were developed roughly concurrently by different Forge Worlds during the later decades of the Great Crusade, and most of these, such as the Indomitus, Tartaros and Saturnine patterns, were functionally identical.

The
Cataphractii Pattern was amongst the first issued, and suits of this type were even more heavily protected than their contemporaries. Slab-like ceramite pauldrons housed additional shield generators, although this formidable protection came at the cost of the wearer’s speed, and the trade between agility and survivability meant that this pattern was beginning to decline among some Legions at the outbreak of the Heresy.

Designed by Will Hayes, the iconic Cataphractii Pattern Terminators is a set of 5 detailed multi-part resin models which includes an optional bare head and a grenade harness. Will has also designed three weapons sets. The Cataphractii Power Fist set contains 5 combi-bolters, a power sword, 4 power fists and a chainfist, while the Cataphractii Power Axe set contains 5 power axes, a power sword and 5 combi-bolters. The third set is the Cataphractii Special Weapons Set, comprising two sets of lightning claws, two thunder hammers, a power sword, a power maul, a chainfist, a plasma blaster, a twin-linked autocannon and a heavy flamer.

Rules for fielding squads of Cataphractii Pattern Terminators can be found in the Space Marine Legion army list contained in The Horus Heresy Book I: Betrayal.

Space Marine Legion Command Upgrade Packs
The Legiones Astartes maintains the ancient martial traditions of Terra; their officers and sergeants often marking themselves out with a helmet crest in the manner of the Romanii of Ancient Terra, while each squad, company and Chapter bears a standard as a rallying point in the midst of battle, and a spur to glory. Each squad maintains constant co-ordination with other elements of their Legion, be they in orbit or in other theatres of war on a given world, using so-called nuncio-voxes which are often built into a modified power armour backpack and helm.

Will Hayes and Mark Bedford have designed sets of MkII, MkIII and MkIV Legion Command Upgrades for use with our Armour Marks. Each set contains two crested officer’s helmets, two vexilla icons and two nuncio-vox helmets and backpacks. These detailed resin components each allow you to represent several squad upgrades from the Space Marine Legion army list in The Horus Heresy Book I: Betrayal on the tabletop.

All seven of these fantastically detailed kits will be on sale in limited numbers at Games Day UK, in advance of their scheduled release date.

=========================================

Must say the new upgrades are great for ultramarine and imperial fist players even if they arent playing preheresy armies, some very very awesome upgrades, certainly considering the comms models for a deathwatch character!

Forge World Newsletter #316 - Fellblade, Legion Doors and T-Shirts

As always all the important bits below:

=========================================

Hi there,
In today’s newsletter, our third Games Day preview, we’re excited to reveal even more fantastic pre-release items that will be on sale, in limited numbers, at Games Day UK on Sunday 23rd September. We can also announce some fantastic Games Day exclusive Horus Heresy products that will be available both at the Forge World stand and in the Black Library area.
Games Day UK Pre-release Kits
Space Marine Fellblade Super-heavy Tank

Based upon the same STC data as the Baneblade and Deathhammer super-heavy tanks, which are a mainstay of the vast brigades of the Imperial Army, the Fellblade is a more advanced variant that first saw widespread service with the Legiones Astartes in the last decades of the Great Crusade.

It is most noted for its use of Mechanicum atomantic arc-reactor technology and a reinforced metaplas alloy chassis superior even to that of the Baneblade, alongside an advanced accelerator cannon as its primary armament. These systems are all fruits of Dark Age technologies rediscovered and restored to humanity shortly before the nightmare of the Great Heresy.

The mighty Space Marine Fellblade is a huge multi-part resin kit designed by Stuart Williamson, containing two Space Marine crew designed by Mark Bedford. Packed with detail, this immense vehicle will be available to buy in limited numbers at Games Day UK on Sunday 23rd September.

Space Marine Legion Land Raider, Rhino and MkIIb Land Raider Door Sets
Simon Egan and Edgar Skomorowski have designed sets of Land Raider, Rhino and MkIIb Land Raider Doors for the Death Guard, Emperor’s Children and World Eaters Legions. These door sets will be available to buy in limited quantities at Games Day UK on Sunday 23rd September.

Each set contains a front plate and two side doors for the relevant Legion, and are fully compatible with our full range of vehicle kits. Please note that the doors supplied in the Rhino Door Sets will not fit onto our Deimos Pattern vehicles.

Forge World Newsletter #315 - Typhon Heavy Siege Tank and Realm of Battle Cityscape

As always all the important bits below:

=========================================
Hi there,
            In our second Games Day preview newsletter we’re not only revealing what new models we’re releasing on the day, but what new scenery we’ll have on sale too! We’re also now able to announce that the ever-popular Forge World seminars will be returning to Games Day UK. Read on for more!
Games Day UK Pre-release Kits
Space Marine Typhon Heavy Siege Tank

Named for the ‘Great Beast’ of Ancient Terran myth, this immense siege tank was developed by the Mechanicum alongside the Spartan, with which it shares a basic chassis design.
The Typhon’s primary armament is the massive Dreadhammer cannon, and was created in response to a request from the Primarch Peturabo, master of the Iron Warriors. He demanded a Legiones Astartes war engine that could rival the great batteries of the Imperial Crusade Army in firepower, but manoeuvre and deploy at the speed of a Space Marine force.
The Typhon Heavy Siege Tank is a detailed multi-part resin model, designed by Phil Stutcinskas which will be on sale in limited numbers at Games Day UK. This mighty siege tank makes for an intimidating centrepiece indeed, and rules for fielding it as part of a Space Marine Legion are printed in The Horus Heresy Book I: Betrayal.
Realm of Battle Cityscape Tiles
In a galaxy beset by war, Imperial architecture is by necessity brutal and fortified. Should the Alien, the Traitor or the Heretic attempt to assault an Imperial world, more often than not it is the great cities of humanity that become battlegrounds; open plazas turning into killing grounds while shattered hab-blocks and ruined Administratum complexes become garrisoned redoubts. The humble tools of civilian infrastructure are transformed into key objectives, with generatorum waypoints becoming vital sources of power and sewer networks being pressed into service as guerrilla highways and concealed ambush points.
Forge World scenery designer Blake Spence has been hard at work over the past few months creating four modular Realm of Battle Cityscape tiles. Each is light weight and durable thanks to the hollow resin method we use, and each 2' x 2' (610 mm x 610 mm) tile is a blank canvas which is fully compatible with your plastic Citadel scenery.

The Shattered Plaza, Generatorum Sector, Primus Sector and Concourse Sector will each be on sale in limited numbers for the first time at UK Games Day, in advance of their scheduled release.

the typhon, thats the bugger, i remember converting one of these up for a very old school DA force done in black, thats how long ago it was, almost preheresy in fact. Love the City boards, might have to keep an eye on these for when i start getting some gaming space.

some very nice and not too expensive stuff, very intrigued by the jet bikes still. not quite what I had pictured but still pretty damned sweet. Expensive book but we all know we want it! so I guess its worth it and as its almost a standalone system it doesnt seem too bad.
