Forge World Newsletter #330 - Zone Mortalis Tiles and Terrain

Apologies that not much has been happening on the blog this past week, Jury Duty is calling and spending too much time on that, still onwards with the post.

Hi there, In this week’s newsletter we return to the perilous confines of the Zone Mortalis with four fantastic new scenery tiles, two interior detail kits, and a 6th edition update to our free Zone Mortalis Warhammer 40,000 expansion. Read on for more! Realm of Battle Zone Mortalis Tiles In a galaxy beset by war, any building or corridor may be pressed into service as a strongpoint. Abrupt corners and shadowed alcoves typify the interior workspaces, while the narrow corridors and indeed larger internal rooms can be sealed off by great plasteel blast doors. These cramped and narrow corridors form the most savage arenas of combat conceivable; battlefields that the Codex Tactica Imperialis refers to as ‘Zone Mortalis’ - the fatal ground.   Blake Spence has designed four new Realm of Battle Zone Mortalis tiles: the Epsilon Complex, Eta Complex, Theta Complex and Zeta Complex, each measuring 1' x 1' (300mm x 300mm). These detailed hollow resin tiles are fully compatible and interchangeable with each other and with our Alpha, Beta, Delta and Gamma tiles; conveniently available together in the Realm of Battle Zone Mortalis Set, allowing for a near-limitless variety of terrain set-ups. These new tiles add huge potential to our Zone Mortalis range, creating new tactical challenges for players as well as fantastic opportunities for modellers. The Theta Complex, in particular, is especially useful as a diorama base as well as allowing large rooms to be created in a Zone Mortalis gaming table. Our Studio team are already talking about using these new tiles to create attack craft hangars and shuttle bays, among others... Ultramarines Contemptor and Predator - An update from Dan

Dans second update of 2013 here and already hes on fire, shaming both me and Chris with his progress (though he was been working on these a while :) ) below are pics of his latest completed models, A Predator and his Contemptor Dreadnought.

Both models are great and are showing great improvement, especially the Contemptor, and looks like the force is growing nicely.

Ultramarines Command Squad - An update from Dan

Dan has recently provided a further update to his Ultramarines force, this time in the guise of his command squad. Personally I really like the models and the use of various parts and weapons, such as the storm shields, to tie them all together.

The models are clean and simple conversions but they work really well together, the only thing missing to my mind is a nice sheild for the apothecary, however overall a great unit and one that works well with the Sicarus model. Cant wait to see some pics with paint on.

Millest’s Monthly Workbench - December Update and Janurary Commitment

First update of the new year and first up, hope you all had a good Christmas or other holiday and that the new year was a pleasant start to 2013 for you all. So folks this months update and commitment will be a nice short one so enjoy and feel free to share your own hobby commitments. So time for the first realistic goal (I hope) of 2013.

Workbench update
So December was an odd month again hobbywise, got done mostly everything I wanted but the weather precluded spraying my helmets and being in the new house I didn't think stinking the place out with krylon was a good idea, so here is the brief round up:

• Tome of Fire - read
• The  Siege of Castellax - read
• Build 2 x chimera completed
• remove trades from 2 x rifle - turns out i had official G36 real steel trades on my Kv but only airsoft H&K style trades (very close to real thing) on my Cv
• assemble and complete fast ops helmet - the helmet was stripped and all parts test fitted but couldn't spray due to the weather.
• strip and start updating mich - the helmet was stripped and all parts test fitted but the rails didnt fit, now for sale and ordering msa rails, also couldn't spray due to the weather.
• sell no longer used airsoft kit - all done (apart from 2 warrior pouches in MC)

As you can see a pretty successful month with pretty much everything I set out to complete getting done, overall quite pleased but really need to get it stepped up a gear for 2013.

Workbench commitment for January 2013
So once again this month we have the tanks! I have a third chimera to build, once completed I shall be looking to complete my manticore and start on some hellhounds. Once built I will see about getting some pics on the blog.
Again more reading but I wont be adding this to the official commitments list as i will be doing way too much reading as normal so would fill the list.
Finally I intend (weather and shed space dependant) getting the two helmets prepped and painted prior to going to the sandpit on the 20th of the month.
Whilst I appreciate this doesn't seem like a huge goal for the month I unfortunately will be on jury service to two weeks of the month (maybe even longer but hopefully not) and if the jury service ends on time I will be away training people for at least a week, followed by a trip to nottingham at the start of feb (though only for work worse luck), with that in mind I think my plans are manageable and goes a good way to getting things moving.

So this months commitment consists of the following:

• Build chimera
• Build Manticore
• Build 3 x hellhound (potentially)
• paint and reassemble fast ops helmet
• paint and reassemble mich

Overall i think a manageable goal so please do keep an eye on the blog for progress over the coming weeks.

Forge World Newsletter #329 - Cerberus Destroyer and Deathshroud Terminators

Hi there, Happy New Year from everyone here at Forge World! We’re beginning the year in fine style with two new kits available to pre-order now: a mighty Space Marine Super-heavy tank and some eagerly awaited ‘silent’ Terminators. Intrigued? Space Marine Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer
An experimental variant tank, the Mechanicum created the Cerberus by mounting a prototype Neutron Laser Projector, and the sizeable atomantic arc-reactors and rad-shielding needed to operate this devastating weapon, within the Spartan’s massive internal capacity.

The Cerberus’ Neutron Laser Projector was retro-engineered from Dark Age technology recovered at great cost by Mechanicum Explorators, a controversial move given the doubts expressed over its provenance and safety for wider dissemination by certain high ranking members of the Mechanicum. Despite this, the Lords of Mars ruled that the new tank, codified the Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer, should be delivered into the service of the Legiones Astartes for battlefield testing. The Neutron Laser, they believed, offered a more compact alternative to the powerful Turbo-lasers used on Titans and the mighty Shadowsword, with a greater potential for collateral damage. It would not be long, however, before the Cerberus’ destructive capacity was turned against the Imperium’s own.

Designed by Phil Stutcinskas, the Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer is a finely detailed, multi-part resin kit, available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 25th January. Rules for fielding this potent war machine alongside a Space Marine Legion force can be found in The Horus Heresy Book One: Betrayal, and the Cerberus is compatible with our range of Space Marine Legion Land Raider door sets.

Death Guard Legion Deathshroud Terminators
An elite cadre of warriors within the XIV Legion, the Deathshrouds were chosen by the Primarch Mortarion for their skill at arms, their fearlessness and their proven endurance. They were often selected from Death Guard legionaries who had survived where their comrades had fallen, each clad in bronze-chased Terminator plate, and armed with a power scythe and the alchem-munitions for which the Death Guard Legion were so darkly famed.

The Deathshrouds formed a silent bodyguard for Mortarion and his senior commanders, and in peace or war alike it was said that at least two of their number remained within forty-nine paces of their Primarch at any time.

The Deathshroud Terminators kit, designed by Will Hayes, contains five finely detailed multi-part resin models. Each features a wealth of iconography, and the kit is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 25th January. Rules for using squads of Deathshroud Terminators in a Death Guard Legion force can be found in The Horus Heresy Book One: Betrayal.

As well as these two fantastic new pre-order kits, the Voss Pattern Lightning Strike Fighter, Justaerin Terminators, Justaerin Weapon Set, Legion MkIV Power Weapon Set and Emperor’s Children Legion Etched Brass are all shipping now.
