This information is from the new article on the GW bog and gives a good solid look at the new flyer seen at recent gamesdays and mentioned in the contents for the new Forgeworld Flyers update. I have now added the gumpf and links with prices etc from the FW newsletter to the bottom of the post.

It's time to don my scarf and flying goggles again because today a new aircraft makes it into the skies of the 41st Millennium - the Avenger Strike Fighter. As a staunch defender of the Imperium I was pleased to see an impressive number of guns mounted on the front of the the Avenger including the avenger bolt cannon - a high-Strength multi-barrelled affair that can tear up enemy planes (and even light vehicles) with ease. It'll also make quite a mess of Space Marines (traitor ones, of course).
At over nine inches long and with a nine inch wingspan, the Avenger is a pretty sizeable craft. Beneath its wings there's plenty of space to fit extra weaponry such as hellstrike missiles and multi-lasers just in case the bolt cannon and lascannons weren't enough firepower for you. To cap off this wonderfully detailed flying machine are two clear resin canopies that fit over the cockpit, which have been specially designed for the Avenger. There's also a cheeky heavy stubber peaking out the rear-facing secondary dorsal cockpit (we spend ages trying to find its technical name on the internet) to put a couple of holes in enemy craft that get too close.
And now the gumpf from Forgeworld:
Imperial Avenger Strike Fighter
The Avenger is a dedicated strike fighter, intended to conduct high-speed, low-level attacks on ground targets, with armoured vehicle formations and high-value strategic assets such as munitions dumps forming its principal prey. The Avenger Strike Fighter boasts firepower that exceeds most other Imperial aircraft of its size, and in particular its reputation as a tank-killer is due to the Avenger bolt cannon it carries.
The Avenger is an ancient design, believed to originate on Ancient Terra sometime during the Age of Strife. It was adopted by forces loyal to the Divine Saint Sebastian Thor during the bloody wars of faith now called the Age of Apostasy. Its effectiveness is such that it is now a staple of any Imperial Navy air support mission, holding a glamour of holy import in the wider Imperium. The Avenger is often specifically requested by the Adeptus Sororitas should they require close support in their purgations, whatever the truth of its providence.
The Avenger Strike Fighter is a finely-detailed multi-part resin kit designed by Daren Parrwood. The kit contains two crew figures and a fully detailed cockpit interior, and the two lascannons supplied with this kit can both be supplemented and replaced with other Forge World Imperial Navy weapons.
Full rules for the Avenger can be found in Imperial Armour Aeronautica, and the kit is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 27th July.

So there you have it more details on the new flyer. A lot of people in the pics about have said they dont like this model, personally i like the effor they have put in to tying it in to the current Imperial Flyers, such as the vulture, by using similar wings and detailing. Certainly makes the case for the STC templates. Looks good and rocks some serious firepower. Might be tempted but would need to see costs and rules first.
It's a good looking model, the wings do fit with the Valkyrie/Vulture. Reminds me of carrier based folding wing aircraft and could probably be converted to be just that.
ReplyDeletecompletely agree, i like also the versitility of the weapons racks, seems that theres a spare set on there for tooling it up. though worryingly looking at this pic:

i reckon you could quite easily stick punisher cannons on it.
great model just not sure i could justify £85 on it!
I really like the look of this thing. Very aggressive stance while still fitting in with the overall Imperial scheme. Neat model.
